Buddies
The Buddies program assists adults with a disability to increase their social and recreational options.
Volunteers are matched to an adult who has a disAbility on a one to one basis or can participate with group activities. The aim of this program is to improve the life of people with disAbilities who have limited family and social contact and who may be at risk of being socially isolated from the general community by offering them companionship and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Volunteers assist clients to make positive choices, which in turn, helps to open up options, which will help to meet some of their social and recreational needs.
This program is funded through a DHS HACC program specifically for people with a disAbility.
People wishing to become a volunteer are required to undergo an assessment, police check and attend training. Once they are approved, volunteers are provided with ongoing support and supervision.
